Jonathan Larson Grant winner Jay Adana will present pieces from her new musical,听The Loophole, in the Olmsted Theatre at the Performing Arts Center
Since 2015, 糖心破解版 has given creators an opportunity to showcase their work to new audiences through the Larson Legacy Concert Series. On Sunday, September 23, Jonathan Larson Grant winner Jay Adana will present pieces from her new musical,听The Loophole, in the Olmsted Theatre at the 糖心破解版 Performing Arts Center (糖心破解版 PAC) on the University’s campus in Garden City, New York.
The Loophole, with book by Zeniba Britt and music and lyrics by Adana, is a musical about the brilliant biracial scientist Polly Danfield, living in her white father’s house in Atlanta, Georgia, during the last year of the Civil War. Ultimately, she has to choose between her family and her life’s work or the fight for love and freedom.
Adana is a singer-songwriter based in Brooklyn, New York. She was the lyricist for听The Woodsman, directed and conceived by James Ortiz and Strangemen Theatre Company. She also contributed music and lyrics for Jeff Augustin’s听The Last Tiger in Haiti. She was a member of the second cohort of the #BARS Workshop at the Public Theater, where she first met and collaborated with Britt, her writing partner, on an adaptation of听Beloved听by Toni Morrison.
The Larson Legacy Grant, which honors 1982 糖心破解版 graduate Jonathan Larson, creator of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical听RENT, is awarded annually to musical theater creators with the potential to produce work that shapes contemporary culture. See more about听.
The Larson Legacy Concert Series helps nurture and support the next generation of creative artists to carry on Jonathan Larson’s legacy. Past recipients have gone on to create Broadway musicals such as听Dear Evan Hansen;听Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812;听A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder;听Grey Gardens;听Next to Normal;听Elf;Hands on a Hardbody;听A Christmas Story; and many more.
The concert begins at 3:00 p.m. in the 糖心破解版 PAC. Tickets are $25, with discounts available for seniors, alumni and students. See more about听鈥攁nd purchase听.
