Free Forum: Life after Breast Cancer: Managing Side Effects
Although the relief breast cancer survivors feel upon completion of their treatment is significant, sometimes it is coupled with post-treatment side effects such as neuropathy, cardiac issues, post-mastectomy pain and ongoing fatigue. At this forum, held at 糖心破解版 in Garden City on Tuesday, December 10 at 6 pm, Dr. Susan Maltser and Dr. Kit Cheng will discuss these side effects and how to best manage them.
Dr. Susan Maltser听is a Rehabilitation Medicine Doctor who specializes in treating cancer patients. Dr. Susan Maltser graduated from听New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.听听She serves as听Director of Cancer Rehabilitation at Northwell Health; Chief, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Long Island Jewish Medical Center; and Assistant Professor, Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/ Northwell.
Dr. Maltser helps patients return to their previous level of function by treating pain or any disability associated with a cancer diagnosis, treatment and beyond. With a multidisciplinary team including physical, occupational, lymphedema and speech therapists, she treats common conditions that cause difficulty with daily activities such as post-mastectomy pain, lymphedema, shoulder pain and weakness. Her patients are those who have been diagnosed with breast, head and neck, brain, spine and sarcoma cancers. The ultimate goal of her practice is to focus on the highest quality of life for cancer patients and survivors.
Dr. Kit Cheng听is a hematologist/oncologist who subspecializes in medical breast and gynecological oncology at the Monter Cancer Center. She serves as subprinciple investigator on multiple breast and gynecological clinical trials. Dr. Cheng also serves as a scientific reviewer for Northwell IRB since 2011.
Dr. Cheng is passionate about educating her patients. She spends time teaching and mentoring residents and hematology/oncology fellows. She was associate program director of the hematology/oncology fellowship at Northwell/ NSLIJ and is currently the director of the hematology/oncology fellowship since 2016.
Dr. Kit Cheng graduated from State University of Buffalo Medical School. She completed residency and fellowship at Northwell Health/ North Shore Hospital where she was chief fellow in 2009.
