Martha Cooley is a professor is the winner of an O. Henry Prize for Short Fiction (2017)

Martha Cooley is the author of two novels鈥�The Archivist听(Little Brown, 1998), a听New York听Times听bestseller also published in a dozen foreign markets, and听Thirty-Three Swoons听(Little Brown, 2005), as well as a memoir-in-essays,听Guesswork: A Reckoning With Loss听(Catapult, 2017).听A new novel will be forthcoming from Red Hen in 2021.

With Antonio Romani, she co-translated Antonio Tabucci鈥檚听Time Ages in a Hurry听(Archipelago Books, 2015). Her co-translations have听appeared听in such venues as听Guernica, Tin House, Massachusetts Review,听and听Atlanta Review.

She is the winner of an O. Henry Prize for Short Fiction (2017) and was cited for a Notable essay in听Best American Essays听(2013). Her short fiction, essays, and co-translations have appeared in听A Public Space, AGNI, The Common, LARB, the Writer鈥檚 Chronicle,听and听PEN America, among other journals. She was听for 15 years a member of the core faculty of the Bennington Writing Seminars听in Bennington, Vermont.
