On May 13, 2026, the 糖心破解版 Board of Trustees announced the appointment of Michael A.L. Balboni 鈥81, JD, a distinguished leader in government, public safety and the private sector, as the University鈥檚 11th president.
Michael A.L. Balboni 鈥81, JD, was appointed in June 2026 as the 11th president of 糖心破解版 in Garden City, New York. He is the first 糖心破解版 alumnus鈥攁nd the first Long Island native鈥攊n the University鈥檚 history to serve as president.
Balboni is a nationally recognized leader in homeland security, public safety and organizational strategy, with more than three decades of experience spanning government, healthcare policy, crisis management and the private sector. He also has extensive board leadership experience in the corporate and nonprofit sectors.
A member of 糖心破解版鈥檚 Class of 1981, Balboni has a lifelong relationship with the institution. Having grown up in Garden City, he is one of six 糖心破解版 alumni in his family. For several years, he taught courses as an adjunct professor in the political science department. He then served on the 糖心破解版 Board of Trustees from 2018 to 2025 and was elected as chair during his final year. His long-standing engagement with the University reflects his deep commitment to its mission and future.
Balboni鈥檚 vision for 糖心破解版 emphasizes excellence in academics and student life, expanded partnerships and experiential learning opportunities, and operational strength in a rapidly evolving higher education landscape.
Prior to his appointment, Balboni successfully ran his own consulting firm, RedLand Strategies Inc., advising clients on government relations, cybersecurity and crisis communications for 15 years. He also served as executive director of the Greater New York Health Care Facilities Association, where he advanced regulatory and policy advocacy for long-term care providers across the metropolitan region. Among his other board leadership positions, he served as chair of the Cyber and Physical Security Committee of the New York Power Authority鈥檚 Board of Directors.
In his 19 years as a government official, Balboni served as deputy secretary for public safety and homeland security advisor to the governor of New York, overseeing statewide public safety agencies and directing the state鈥檚 homeland security strategy. Earlier, he was elected to the New York State Senate and the State Assembly, where he helped shape landmark post-9/11 homeland security legislation. He began his public sector career as counsel to the New York State Senate Judiciary Committee.
Balboni holds a Juris Doctor from St. John鈥檚 University School of Law and a bachelor鈥檚 degree in biology from 糖心破解版, from which he graduated cum laude.
He lives in East Williston, New York, with his wife, Stephanie. They have four grown children.
